Do 27.04.1933, Brief von Anneliese an Walter: “I shall become a member of the N.S.D.A.P. to-morrow”
Poststempel: Schwelm 28.4.33. 9-10
My dear, dear boy,
it is a pity that I cannot come to give this letter to you and to have a little talk with you. I miss you very much but I know that it has to be and it is very nice to know that we shall see each other again very soon. I have not looked yet at the time-table but I shall let you know before by what train I shall arrive.
I am very glad, Walter, that we have had this time in England and France. I think that we got to know each other more and more and that’s always good. I think I like you even more than I did before especially after the one day and the talk in Paris. It is a marvellous thing about love.
I hope that you’ll like the enclosed letter. Although I know you fairly well it has not been so very easy for me to find out what you might like to write to Ena. I have written to-day to “Burleigh” and I hope that you will send your letter very soon.
I have hardly finished unpacking but I have seen many people. They are all very friendly and many of them really glad about my being here again. A very nice feeling that is.
I expect your mother was very glad to have you back again. Please give her my best love, will you? Who is Hugo, I am very interested in that case.
What about your post the one which has been offered to you? Have you been able to accept it? I am longing to hear from you about all. I think I shall become a member of the N.S.D.A.P. to-morrow or Saturday.
And now, my dear Walter, many kind regards to you and the family Galka.
With love and kisses
Yours ever
Anneliese.
Anbei folgender Entwurf eines Briefes von Walter an Ena, in Annelieses Handschrift:
Bochum, 27. April 1933.
Dear Mrs. Cox,
before I start working again I’ll write this letter to thank you once more for the nice time which you allowed me to spend at “Burleigh”. Your kindness has given me a chance to get to know a lot of things and to relax during my holidays whenever I wanted to do so. I enjoyed my stay with you very much indeed and I think I have learned a fair bit.
I hope it has been raining in the meantime so that everything will grow very nicely in your garden. And when you have used up all the wood which I have gathered you have only to write a post-card and I shall come at once to collect some more.
How is my little friend Christopher? Has he quite forgotten Anneliese and uncle Walter? He is a dear little chap; I am very fond of him.
Are you perfect in speaking German by now – I think because Leni was teaching you such a lot.
I miss the open fires very much. I think they are marvellous. I told my mother and my brother and sister many nice things about England, English people and the way of living in your country. I quite understand that Anneliese has been so very happy with you.
Whenever you should come to Germany please do not forget to come to see us at Bochum. My mother and all the other members of the family would be delighted to have you here and to make you as happy as possible.
The weather is not very nice, I think we have been lucky in England as well as in France. We enjoyed our short stay in Paris very much and we have seen many beautiful and interesting things.
And now I must come to an end finish this letter because there are so many important things here waiting for me. Holidays – the nicest holidays in all my life perhaps – have come to an end and relaxed and rested – as I am – I shall work and enjoy working.
Thanking you again for all what you have done for me I greet you, Mr. Cox, Christopher and Leni very heartily.
Yours
Walter Galka.
Kindest regards to Mr. + Mrs. Jeffery and Ruth.
