I have been wondering just now whether I should write this letter in English or German perhaps it’s better if I answer in English. I have been a little bit surprised after having read your letter but – never mind – we will see and let things get on and be happy, very happy that we shall be together again and for a long time. It is quite likely – by the way – that Betty will not be together with us in Paris.

Liebe Eltern,

heute hat die Bande mich nach dem Mittagessen alleine gelassen d. h. Christopher schläft und darum kann ich nicht in mein Zimmer und habe Euren Brief nicht zur Hand. Für Brief und Karte herzl. Dank. Ja, das war ein feiner Brief und wohl auch ein feiner Kaffee. Aufs Bild bin ich gespannt. – Ena wird nicht verreisen, es sind ja auch nur noch 4 Wochen bis der Walter kommt. Würdet Ihr dem Jungen wohl Georg-Pulver (kl. Schachtel oder mittelgroß), Schwarzkopf Haarpuder für blonde Haare u. Rheila Perlen mitgeben?

My dear Walterjunge,

thanks so much for your letter and the photo which really is very good and I am very happy to have it now and again many, many thanks for it. Well, I hope you notice that I am answering your letter very soon because I only got it the day before yesterday. Yesterday I received your mother’s and sister’s letter and I thank them both heartily. By the way – I answered the letter which you wrote from Schwelm 4 days after I got it – is that really so very long – you know that I have a lot to do here and I really cannot write more often.
