Mi 22.03.1933, Brief von Anneliese an Walter: “I have tried very hard to do my best and I apologize for the rest”
“Burleigh”, Hursley Road, Chandler’s Ford Hants. Southampton
22. III. 1933.
My dear Walter,
coming back from Southsea on Monday afternoon I found your letter and I thank you very much. I had been waiting- oh sooo much for it – why? because of my last letter, I did not like it to write it – but still I had to do it. Of course I am not afraid of you – how could I – I am not afraid at all neither of you nor of anybody else – but perhaps I am afraid of myself! But we will leave it now, please, my dear!
If you really want to go to my book-case it could not be too difficult because you can always say that I asked you to choose a book for travelling because the route is not very interesting – indeed it is rather tiring sometimes. For this purpose you can choose a book from Walter Flex who really is a marvellous writer!
I’ll leave it to you but I will not tell you about the content.
I thank you very much for your nice postcard. Oh yes, soon, very soon we shall be together again – too nice to be true – I often think.
I am just hearing a concert symphonie by Hindemith from the Queen’s Hall in London. It is very good indeed but I don’t understand it! You are very optimistic to think that I might have altered only to my best – do you really think it possible? I am afraid I doubt it. Still I have tried very hard to do my best and I apologize for the rest.
I have tried to write to your mother but we are so very busy just now hat I have not been able yet. I will very soon now. I am going to order the rooms now. Perhaps Leni is going to stay with us at “Burleigh” one week longer, mother will tell you next Sunday. Poor kid.
Ena will write to you to-morrow. Save the envelop [sic] as well as the letter for the police.
Much love to you, my dear boy, I am very tired now, I cannot write any more.
Yours ever Anneliese.
