Mi 25.01.1933, Brief von Anneliese an Walter: “I suppose that life will be pretty expensive in Paris”

25. I. 33.

Mein lieber Junge,

please don’t be cross with me when I do not write a lot to-day but I have pinched my finger when shutting a window and it is rather difficult for me now to hold a pencil. Well, I was very pleased when I got your letter and I thank you very much for it. No, my dear boy, I know that you are neither lazy nor afraid of work and it makes me very happy that you are not. And I hope that you will be very happy here.

I do not think that we could leave “Burleigh” before the 21^st of April because Betty’s holidays do not start before this date. Also I suppose that life will be pretty expensive in Paris but I hope that we shall be able to stay 1 or 2 nights there. Oh, I am so looking forward to the time. Another 9 ½ weeks and it’s April! I could not tell you how much money we shall want. I should take as much as I could spare – we can always bring some back, can’t we? Would you like me to stay 1 night in London? I think I could manage.

Ja, mein Junge, manchmal scheint es mir auch, als ob ich recht viel hier zu tun hätte, hier ist eben im Winter sehr viel Arbeit und allzu praktisch veranlagt ist unsere gute Ena nicht. Aber im April – da ist ja schon fast Sommer – wirds wohl besser sein – und Du hast ja auch tüchtig zu tun, nicht wahr? Ich freue mich unbändig auf Deutschland, aber bis dahin bin ich hier wohl recht gern und hoffe, daß auch Du Dich wohl fühlen wirst. Wir leben hier ja ganz im Walde – das wird Dir sicherlich einmal gut tun! Mir tut es nur leid, daß ich garkeine Zeit zum lernen übrig habe. –

Über Deine sonstigen Mitteilungen habe ich mich gefreut, ist doch schön, wenn jemand Freude an der Arbeit hat und helfen werde ich Dir immer gern! – Wie gehts Deiner lb. Mutter?

Für heute Schluß – ich kann kaum noch den Halter halten.
