Mi 28.12.1932, Brief von Anneliese an Walter: “Harald wrote a letter to me; I should have preferred not to get one again from him”

Southsea, 28th Decembre 1932.

My dear, dear boy,

I do not know where to start to thank you for your lovely present. Oh, it’s so kind of you to give me the nice bracelet, I simply love it. And I do not only like it so very much because it is very pretty or because you gave it to me but I love it and I love you for choosing it and for thinking it over what to give to me. I know that this is not so very easy for you and that’s why your present made me so very happy.

And mother told me that you sent the “Gänsemännchen” to Schwelm and Hedwig worked a very nice bag for it. Thank you so much. I hope you do not mind that mother did not send it over but you know that I read the book a few months ago and therefore I told mummy [sic] to keep it there. But please do not be sorry sad because I shall like to read this book again and if you do not know it yet you will probably enjoy it. I like this book very much and I am glad that you gave it to me. And again thanks ever so much.

I hope you enjoyed your Xmas and I hope I’ll hear about it. I thank you so much for your postcard and your letter which I got to-day. I am ever so sorry that you did not know my address. I apologize for not writing earlier but I thought I had written my new address to you. We were in such a rush the last time to get all the things ready and I did not know what I had been doing and what not. Will you please forgive me?

I had a nice time at Xmas and I got a lot of presents, I must have been rather good. And what about you? Are you satisfied? I often thought of you and Germany but still – they did all to make me happy and I could not resist and I did not want to – was that right? I am having a lovely time now. I’ll tell you much about it when I am back.

Will you please tell your mother and Hedwig that I thank so much for the letters but that I shall not have time to answer them at once. And many thanks for the nice book-bag. I am looking forward to see it in a few weeks.

Harald wrote a letter to me; I should have preferred not to get one again from him – at least not this one. It is not too bad but – never mind.

A very, very happy and bright New Year to you, your mother, Hedwig and Karl.

Much love and many kisses

Yours ever

Anneliese.
