Di 20.12.1932, Kärtchen von Anneliese an Walter: “Do you know that I am really very fond of you?”

Love and Best Wishes for Christmas

A simple wish
in simple rhyme
That you may know to-day
Whate’er the place
whate’er the time.
My thoughts do ever stray
To you –and
nothing can express
The love which only you
can guess.

“Burleigh”, 20. XII. 1932.

My dear, dear Walter,

and now it’s nearly Xmas time and I hope you like the little rhyme and it’s so very nicely said on there what I want you to know that I hope you’ll read it again. Oh, my dearest boy, I wished I could stay together with you at Xmas day. I am ever so glad that you and Hedwig are going to spend one day at my parent’s house. It will be good for my father and mother as well as for you. I’ll think quite a lot of you that day.

We are very busy doing all the parcels up, writing all the Xmas letters and getting all our things ready as we are going away for our Xmas-holidays on Friday morning. Oh, I am looking forward to the time through I think I shall not be very thrilled with the English Xmas especially – I am quite sure – that I shall not be fascinated with their custom of kissing each other unterneath the mistel-toe. If only you were there.

I hope that mother sent you the small present which I bought for you and I hope that it will be to your liking.

I thank you very much for your nice letter and especially for answering so quickly. Do you know that I am really very fond of you? I am glad that you are having a short holiday because I am quite sure that you will need it. I am so very sorry that your mother is not quite well and I hope so much that she will soon get over it so that you can all be happy together.

And now, my dear boy, I hope you are not cross with me because I have to finish now. A very happy Christmas and all the best to you! I hope we shall be together next Xmas!

With love and kisses

Yours ever Anneliese.
