Di 04.10.1932, Brief von Anneliese an Walter: “I am awfully sorry that your Silentium has not had the expected success and I hope for the best.”
“Burleigh”, 4th Octobre [sic] 1932.
My dear Walter!
Thank you ever so much for your nice letter and the two snaps which I like very much. I am very sorry that I could not answer before but we have an awful mess in the house. We are having one room papered, one window broken etc. And of course it makes a lot of work. Nevertheless we are very happy and jolly alltogether and we really are one family. Mrs. Cox asked me to call her Ena and we became very good friends.
We are doing all the work together and we are dealing all the pleasure too. I do not think that they will ever become less nice. They always ask me what I like to do and to have, whether I prefer the dark paper or the light one, what I want to have for dinner etc. You see, I have been extremely happy in getting to know this family. The country round here is awfully pretty. Last Sunday we had a short but very nice ride in the car to Farley, the highest point of Hampshire. The view from the top of the hill was marvellous. We are going out for tea once or twice a weak [sic] and sometimes we have visitors in. There are beautiful shops and we use to go there twice a week for shipping. I have not had any time to learn my words but I have quite a lot of oportunity [sic] to talk and Mr. Cox is very good in correcting my pronociation [sic] and besides he likes to tease me and I have always to think of the right answer. To-day I took a few snaps but I shall not be able to get the prints very soon because I have first to finish my film. But I like to get snaps from you!!!!
What about the post you wrote for? I hope so much you will be lucky one day. Mr. Cox thinks you must be very strong-minded because in spite I had made up my mind to marry you you had not become my real fiancé – isn’t it funny? He is rather upset now that I really write it to you, oh he has not got an idea how nice my Walter and I are together! –
I am awfully sorry that your Silentium has not had the expected success and I hope for the best.
Well, I hope to hear very soon from you about that post at Kiel, about you, your friends and your family. Mrs. Cox sends you her love. Many kisses and much love
Yours Anneliese.
Kindest regards to your family.
