Dear Madam,
I am writing in answer to your advertisement in “The Lady“.
I am requiring an educated girl to help look after my two little girls aged 4 ¾ and 3 years. My husband is a doctor (of medicine) and we live 3 miles from Scarborough.
If you came here, you would be treated as a member of the family and only given light household duties, as I keep a maid.
You would receive plenty of leisure – There are of course facilities for tennis, bathing, dancing etc.
You would soon improve your English as I have helped foreign girls before. I should be glad if you could speak a little German to my two children as they have learned a few words.
Will you let me know furhter particulars about yourself, what pocket money you require & when you can come here?
Scarborough is five hours from London.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
(Mrs.) R. D. Andrade-Thompson
Nach Dr. Andrade-Thompson wurde in Newby-Scalby sogar eine Straße benannt.
